We love sport at Chilham and strive to give sporting opportunities to all of our children.
The benefits of sport in the lives of young children are boundless and leading an active life has been proven to improve our mental and physical health and fitness and wellbeing. This is why we are passionate about sport a Chilham!
Our Sports Council made up of six pupils from year 5 who are always looking to find ways to encourage everyone to become more active and promote the enjoyment of a variety of different sports within school. This year they will be running a playtime sports fun club for children in the Wrens as well as helping to organise publicise and equip a number of intra- school events.
With this years Sainsbury’s vouchers we were able to purchase some new playground equipment, cricket set and javelins, so a huge Thank You to everyone for sending them in. They do make a real difference.
The Year 5 Sports Council (Ellie, Jamie, Lily, Tom, Zoe and Imogen) had a great time at the Sports Leaders Course at the Julie Rose Centre on 23rd January and have come back full of enthusiasm and ideas to get us all enjoying sport and a healthy lifestyle!
They have also decided on their new roles within our School Sports Council:
Ambassadors Zoe & Jamie
Reporters Lily & Imogen
Designers Tom & Ellie
Statisticians Tom & Lily
Change4life Champions Imogen & Ellie
Look out in forthcoming newsletters for information about events and clubs that they are planning and running!
We are pleased to announce that we have arranged a Bikeability course for Year 6 children for June this year and letters will go out soon to give Year 6 parents more information.
Rapid Fire Cricket Competition, Stour Centre
Massive congratulations to our Martins who came away with bronze medals from the Rapid Fire Cricket competition at The Stour Centre in Ashford on Thursday (22nd February). They showed bags of enthusiasm and determination and managed to come 3rd out of 12 teams! “Well Done” Yasmine, Finley, Adam, Nate, Ella, Joel, Eli, Ashton and Jamie! We are so proud of you!
Kent College Cross Country
We had a great turn out yet again for the Kent College Cross Countries on 3rd and 24th Feb
Great job to all who braved the chilly Saturday mornings. Next term will see the beginning of the athletics meets instead with many track and field events to try including Javelin, Long Jump and a variety of Sprint Races!
Monday Morning Running Club
The club is running again this term 8-8:30am (parents must stay or arrange for their child to be taken to school by another parent).
Full details for after school clubs are available under the Parents/Letters tab on homepage, and by clicking on the Clubs button on homepage.
Playtime Sports Club
We are hoping to extend our Sports Council run playtime Sports Club to 2 days a week so that Wrens can also benefit from a more active playtime!
We at Chilham love Sports Relief and this year will be no exception. We are looking forward to lots of fun sporty events throughout the week starting 19th March.
Quick Sticks Hockey
Tuesday 20th March will see some of our Peacocks competing in an all day Hockey tournament at Ashford Hockey Club. Get practising Peacocks!
Saturday 24th March is the day of the small schools 7-a-side football tournament at Smeeth School.
I would love to put together a team to enter this, so if you know your Robana from your Cruyff turn then come and see me and I’ll sign you up for trials to be held on Friday 9th March.
